STAR 50 Index Rebalances: Five New Names Join, Semiconductor Chip Stocks Feature Prominently

The September adjustment adds three semiconductor value-chain companies, underscoring the index’s growing tilt toward China’s domestic chip sector.

he Shanghai Stock Exchange and China Securities Index Co., Ltd. jointly announced on Friday that they will adjust the constituent samples of the STAR 50 Index and several related benchmarks, with the changes taking effect after the market close on September 11, 2026 — meaning they will be reflected in trading from September 14.

According to the published adjustment list, five constituents will be rotated out of the STAR 50 Index and replaced by five incoming names.

DirectionConstituent Companies
Added (In)Raytron Technology, Sichuan Huafeng Technology, Beijing E-Town Semiconductor Technology, Insta360 (Arashi Vision), and Shenghe Jingwei Microelectronics
Removed (Out)Cathay Biotech, China National Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, HHG (Huihong Optoelectronics), Bestechnic (Hangzhou), and Shenzhen Huatai Medical

A Clear Semiconductor Undercurrent

Notably, among the five incoming constituents, Raytron Technology, E-Town Semiconductor, and Shenghe Jingwei Microelectronics all belong to the semiconductor and chip industry chain. Their inclusion marks a meaningful refresh of the flagship tech index’s exposure toward upstream and midstream segments of China’s domestic integrated-circuit ecosystem.

Raytron is an infrared thermal imaging specialist; E-Town Semiconductor focuses on semiconductor equipment and process technology; Shenghe Jingwei Microelectronics (Shenghe Crystal Micro) operates in advanced packaging and wafer-level services. Alongside existing heavyweight holdings, their addition is expected to further concentrate the index’s representation in chips, equipment, and related hardware.

How Index Rebalancing Works

Index sample adjustments follow a regular, rules-based review schedule and are a standard part of maintaining an accurate benchmark. Constituents are typically evaluated on criteria including market capitalization, liquidity, and trading volume over a defined observation period. The September 11 effective date — a Friday — means the new lineup will begin trading on September 14, the following Monday.

For reference, the STAR 50 Index (Shanghai: 000688) tracks the 50 largest and most liquid stocks listed on the STAR Market, Nasdaq-style sci-tech board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and serves as a bellwether for China’s innovation-driven listed companies.

The rebalancing is likely to draw attention from passive funds that track the STAR 50, as index-tracking products adjust their portfolios around the effective date to mirror the updated sample list.
